I always say the best outfits come when you don't put too much thought into what you are going to wear. I knew I wanted to be somewhere between casual and dressy and nothing says dressy casual then a pair of distressed denim. I wanted to elevate the denim a bit so I wore a light weight dress over the jeans which created a cool layered vibe. The dress has its own belt attached, but I decided to wear this velvet belt that stood out a bit more and that would cinch in my waist. The velvet also made the whole look a bit more dressed up. Velvet is super on trend right now and I'm not so into wearing to much of it so this was the perfect amount for me. This belt actually went with my wedding dress, and this was the first time I have worn it since. I was happy to finally wear it again in a whole other way. I finished off with a strappy shoe which always makes a look especially denim a tad dressier. Sometimes you just have to think a little outside the box to get a look all your own.

IF THE SHOE FITS

inspiration, my styleMiriam SternoffComment

(jumpsuit -forever 21, bodysuit (similar here)- naked wardrobe (worn underneath), sneakers- adidas, sunglasses- steven alan)

Sometimes in life we have to follow the age old rule of if the shoe fits wear it. Or in this case jumpsuits. Ever since I saw Michelle Pfieffer in Scarface donning a silk jumpsuit in the 80"s I was hooked. I have been wearing jumpsuits, onesies, rompers whatever you want to call it since I was a little girl. I bought this one from Forever 21 while I was pregnant, as I wanted and needed a go to piece that I felt amazing in and could throw on with sneakers or heels and that could grow with my belly. I have continued to wear this over and over since having the baby. I am still limited on wearing so many of my clothes as my body slowly makes its way back to pre pregnancy size. This still makes me feel absolutely amazing and put together everytime I put it on. It hits me in all the right places to accentuate my waist, It is will also be the perfect transition piece into fall as I can layer underneath it and throw on a leather jacket and be out the door. All in all one of the best purchases I have made.

SEXY THANG

(lace camisole-mayana geneviere)

When I first found out I was pregnant one of my first thoughts was oh shit, I am going to have to wear a bra now. Not to say that I never wore a bra but I definitely was never wearing more then what would be considered a 12 year olds training bra. You now those little triangle things that barely do a thing? I still ended up wearing a version of a triangle bra throughout my whole pregnancy. It may not have been the best choice but I did it nonetheless. I knew I wasn't going to get away with that once I had the baby, so my search for a nursing bra commenced. I was so completely confused and disappointed that my options seemed limited. I mean I love a good sports bra, but does every nursing bra need to look like one? As pregnant and postpartum women we already feel unlike ourselves and perhaps not at our sexiest. And why oh why would a nursing bra be padded? Like your boobs aren't big enough because of pregnancy and then even bigger when your milk comes in?! And lastly all the snaps and hooks, isn't it enough you will have a baby hanging from your body every minute of the day?

I had about given up until I came across an angel, her name is Nadine Woods.  Her company Mayana Geneviere lingerie is every womans answer to nursing wear and postpartum recovery garments. She basically makes the anti nursing bra if that makes any sense. These bras are not a far cry from my beloved triangle bras. They are black, lacey and sexy. There are no snaps, hooks, or fumbling fingers trying to feed your baby. just simply pull the soft cup down and voila. The cherry on top is that they have this little ring clasp in the middle of the bra that slides back and forth, so you can remember which side you last nursed on. If you are anything like me by the time 3pm hits and have nursed for what seems like the 100th time that day, I need a little reminder. last but not least they come in real cup sizes. No more guessing!  I haven't taken these bras off since they came into my life and will continue to wear them probably beyond my nursing days, as they are just the good.

I first came across this ALC dress one day while prepping for a job at Nordstrom, and couldn't stop thinking about it for days. But I just couldn't pull the trigger to go back and get it as I am trying to not buy things while I am in this in between sizes phase due to postpartum. 2 weeks later I find myself back at Nordstrom prepping for another job which called for easy relaxed all white pieces. So I couldn't leave it behind, you know cause the job called for it.  It just so happened to be my current size so I decided to just try it on just for the sake of trying it on, and clearly that was a mistake since it never got returned with all the other pieces I had pulled for my job. I justified the purchase for several reasons 1. It's just amazing, duh. 2. Even when I lose weight it will be amazing a tad bit drapey. 3. The more you wear it, the more lived in and wrinkled it gets and it just looks that much more effortless.  4. And probably the most important, it is nursing friendly as it buttons all the way up. So all in all a win win am I right?

Throughout my pregnancy I have made it my mission and basically have had an aversion to buying "maternity" wear. Around 7 or so months I realized I was going to have to hang up my pre pregnancy denim and was going to have to go without my second skin. Denim is the one thing that I was going to have to make an exception on. However after a vast search, I just couldn't find a pair that didn't feel like I was wearing maternity jeans. They either looked like jeggings (another aversion of mine) or just didn't feel like true denim. And being that I am a denim head, I was not willing to sacrifice fit, feel and aesthetics in this case. That is until my friends over at a new company, Tilden introduced me to a specific pair of Citizens Of Humanity jeans.

What I love about this specific style is they actually feel and fit like a true denim without compromising style. From the distressed wash to the lower rise in the front with soft elastic panels that fit right underneath my belly makes them so comfortable. The best part is they have a button, a real button that I can actually close. Which for me is a biggy, as it makes me feel like I haven't just given up and gone all elastic waist on everything. And let's be real it's all about the way something makes you feel at this point in the game. I only wish I had found these earlier than 9 months pregnant, as I could have been wearing them for months. At least I have them now, and as I keep saying if you are going to buy maternity make sure you can wear those pieces after baby arrives. I know I will be living in these until I can get back into my pre pregnancy size.

There is just something about navy, especially when you come across the perfect shade of navy. And yes, there is such thing as not quite the right shade. It can either read to dark where you cannot tell if it is black or too blue to not be true navy. You want to find a shade that you can put in that neutral color category so you can wear it with any color. And when I say any color I specifically mean black! There are those silly misconceptions you cannot pair navy and black, when in actuality there is nothing chicer that pairing the two. Legoe, which has been one of my go to designers throughout my pregnancy has managed to not only find the perfect shade, but to design the perfect dress. I have worn it with sneakers, flats and heels, it is the perfect transition dress from day to night. Not to mention will be the perfect transition dress from pregnancy to postpartum and with a bit of tailoring I can implement into my wardrobe for the long haul.

I wouldn't ever really use the word "girly" to describe myself, but the minute I saw this top from Hatch collection I knew I needed it in my life. I don't think I have ever owned anything with a  ruffle let alone off the shoulder. I like to think it is just a new take on the classic white button up. It still has an effortless, carefree vibe with a bit of french flair. Especially when paired with a tailored pair of pinstripe cropped pants. This one piece may make me rethink a thing or two about what exactly the term "girly" means.

Since the minute I found out I was pregnant, I vowed to myself I would not lose my personal aesthetic as far as my style is concerned. I have been able to sustain that thus far, and even tried a few new things style wise along the way.  But as I approach the last month of pregnancy, I am finding it a bit more difficult to feel like me. I have never been someone who thinks ahead of time what I am going to wear for most occasions. I find when I put too much thought into an outfit I end up feeling uncomfortable wishing I was in something else.  Now however I find myself having  to plan a bit more. I am at a point where I just do not fit into anything anymore. Everything is just getting bigger and bigger. Namely my thighs. So I find dresses is the way to go for this last leg of the race. Thank the pregnant gods for this dress from Hatch collection, since I have been living in it and will continue to do so for another month. Perfect with sneakers or sandals it's my savior of all saviors never making me feel un me

For as long as I can remember I have always been a sneaker head. All through grade school and high school I always had a fresh pair of Adidas Stan Smiths, all white classic K Swiss and a pair of Nike trainers. I have mentioned before that I am not one to follow trends, but since wearing sneakers is nothing new for me it is one time I am happy to fit it. Especially being 8 months pregnant I am ecstatic that I can throw on a pair of trainers with basically anything.  From sweats or my version of sweats, a la these perforated faux leather harem pants to a cute little dress. Im seriously thinking about wearing sneakers for my baby shower. Jump below for more sneaker inspo

There is nothing more simple than a pair of black pants and white button up. Timeless, classic, effortless. I love the ease of the Easy pant from Hatch, no pun intended. With the elastic waist and soft fabric they make for the perfect pant to wear casually running around town, yet can also throw on a pair of heels to transition into night. I paired with an oversized white button down, also from Hatch for that boyfriend vibe and clogs for my day of errands. If you are looking for a bit more of a tailored look get a button up in a smaller size and pair with a black pencil skirt with flats or heels.  Whether paired together or separatley these are two pieces every woman should own and put your own twist on them!

THE PAJAMA GAME

my style, inspirationMiriam SternoffComment

Sometimes after a long day of work shopping and prepping for clients, the last thing I want to think about is getting myself dressed. Especially at this phase of my life being 6 months pregnant it takes every ounce of energy to even get off the couch. This particular day, I was shopping all day for a new client for a video shoot and that night had to go to a gala which required black tie attire. So many issues with this, as who has black tie attire just hanging in their closet that will fit while pregnant? Not me. As I stared longingly at my new pajamas I had just bought from Topshop wishing all I could do was throw them on and crawl into bed. It dawned on me that I might not be able to crawl into bed but I can still throw them on. So with my 15 dollar pajamas that I bought on sale and a velvet blazer paired with some strappy heels I was out the door and could not have been happier or more comfortable. And you best believe that when I came home all I did was take off shoes and blazer and crawled right into bed.  So whether you are into wearing PJ's out in the world or just want that pajama inspired look, a fees pics below for inspo.

Although it is currently almost 90 degrees in LA, I do not want to let go of winter or layers just yet. So I figured just go for gold and layer everything all at once. Adding layers while pregnant may seem a little backwards as you would think it would make you look bigger then you already are but somehow it seems to be working. It's all about the kind of layers and playing with proportions.  Since I have slightly but not all together given up on jeans these days, as they are just not so comfy anymore,  I simply refuse to just quite denim all together, so thank goodness my denim shirt collection is just as massive as my jean collection. Tying the denim shirt at waist or what ever is left of my waist line broke up the layers and created a waist line as well as just an extra styling detail. Playing with textures and prints also is key when layering up. Somehow I ended up channeling my inner 70's child a la Farrah Fawcett and Jane Birkin which I am happy to emulate any day.

As the months keep passing during my pregnancy, I have been really focused on what takes precedence in my life. Figuring out what I want vs. what I need. I know for me sometimes that can be a blurry line, especially when it comes to clothes. It's hard not to run out and buy a whole new wardrobe as my belly keeps expanding, but realize I would rather save money for all things baby. As I have mentioned in previous posts, I am really trying to work with I have in my closet, or be as cost effective as I can during this time. As I will not be in this body for too much longer. I cannot stress enough that you can really find some amazing and fashionable options at stores such as H&M, Forever 21, Zara and Target. What is great about all these stores is that they all have maternity lines which equally have really cute pieces or you can simply opt to buy a size or two up from your regular size. Regardless of being preggy or not, I always do a mix of highs and lows, as I feel it gives you a more rounded out look. And accessorizing is always your best friend to amp up any look.

I found this amazing oversized mock neck sweatshirt, which is very much on trend right now and skirt at H&M the other day and they have been on constant repeat. Now I am not typically one to buy trendy items as I feel that they lose their value quickly, but figure this as good as time as any to buy certain things I normally wouldn't. Although I think this sweatshirt will fit very nicely into my wardrobe after baby as well, as I can throw it on with jeans and sneakers and be out the door.

MULE, NAY

I recently was gifted a pair of these morrocan slippers via my friends over at the Wardrobe Department LA. I was dreamily staring at them, waiting for warmer months so I could wear them with summer dresses, cropped pants and bermuda shorts. Then the bulb went off in my head, I live in LA it's been 70 degrees in January so why no break them out. I blame my momentary brain lapse due to pregnancy brain, which has been happening a lot lately. There is nothing I love more then mixing seasonal clothing when appropriate. Pair a cute pair of mules, whether heeled or flat with cropped jeans, a cozy knit and leather jacket or over coat. Or take your summer dress and layer a chunky cardigan and scarf and slide on your mules. A few more inspo pics to get you inspired below.

NEW BEGINNINGS

(photos by andrea gagne)

As I head into the New Year, life as I've been used to is slowly about to change. It took me some time to put it out there to the world, but I am so happy to announce that I am a week shy of being 5 months pregnant with my first child. As I sit and write this post I actually keep tearing up, as this is something that has been long awaited for me and my husband. I have never been that girly girl who thought far into the future about the wedding and the dress.... but the one thing I always knew was that I  always wanted to be a mom. I thought it would have happened at a much younger age, however as they say timing is everything and right now could not be more perfect. I have a little over a year and half of marriage under my belt and we are stronger then ever. Not to get all sappy but there really is nothing like pregnancy to bring two people closer together. As excited as I am to meet this new life, I am trying to soak in every minute of the next few months where it will just be two of us. I guess that makes all my nights over the past few weeks or should I say months sitting on the couch acceptable?!

When I first found out I was pregnant I told myself that I was lucky in the way of clothes, as my typical style is drapey, slouchy, oversized... You get the picture. I had nothing to worry about, all my soft pants as I like to call them, which really means elastic waist would carry me through quite some time. Then reality hit! They all hit me right in the middle of my belly which was so uncomfortable. My belly wasn't big enough for them to sit under so I just ended up looking like the penguin from Batman. I was and still am ok at this point in the way of tops as everything I own for the most part was oversized to start with. So began the dilemma of the bottom half. And I profusely refuse to buy maternity clothes (especially maternity jeans) for several reasons. Really because you spend money on new things that you only wear for a few short months and that idea just seems silly to me. Obviously you have to buy some new additions as its just not realistic that you won't have to. So here in particular is my solution on how to keep wearing your current jeans without buying maternity ones.  If you wear a lot of denim as I do buy button extenders or a Bellaband which I am anxiously awaiting to arrive any day now.  So in the meantime I have been using button extenders that I ordered on Amazon. They will give you an inch to an inch and a half of extra room in your waist. They have literally been my life saver and am wearing with my denim above. Especially helpful with skinny jeans, which you do not need to give up! Wear longer tops, such as tunics to cover the waist band so there is no peek a boo happening.  Unless you have extra cute underwear on, then I say it show it off! This a great time time to start playing with layering. You already are going to feel self conscious at times because nothing fits like it used to. So I say this is the best time to experiment and have a bit of fun with your style! Try new things that you may not have ever thought of. For me that is more body conscious pieces.  But I will discuss my prudish behavior more in detail later....

ps, all the pieces worn in post are all available now and on sale, so for all you newly pregnant woman or not go, run and shop!

Turtlenecks are one of my favorite trends that have made a huge comeback. Living in LA it makes it a little difficult to wear but thank goodness for LNA and their perfect version for warmer climates. IN THE TRENCHES

This outfit combines two of my favorite fall staples, the oh so necessary ankle bootie and the perfect transition coat aka the trench coat. Two pieces that as far as I am concerned are a must have for fall. Since I tend to keep my outfits pretty casual, the combo of these booties and trench coat gave me just the right amount of edge I was looking for. I probably have about a dozen or so ankle boots some are flat, others sky high while some are studded.... all mostly of course black. I seem to always revisit these Tracy Reese ones again and again. They just look amazing with everything from jeans of course to slacks, to a great skirt or dress. The color and texture is what I really love about them, as they allow me to have a little pop o color amongst the sea of black I typically wear.

Ok so now onto the trench coat. I suggest as your reading this to not walk but run to go buy this ever so important fall staple. Most trenches are light enough weight to layer underneath them, which is why I say the trench is a must have piece. As most of us are not ready to commit to a heavy coat just yet. Mostly I am talking about myself. This recent Zara find was exactly what I needed to freshen up my fall uniform. The color and material just elevate a simple look of jeans and a tshirt for a very polished put together look, all without looking like you tried to hard.

So basically summer is never ending in LA right now, which I know I shouldn't complain about...but Im just soooo ready for fall clothes and not for nothing I am just sick and tired of my summer clothes. All I want to do is layer myself up in leather, and cashmere, and wear all my favorite fall boots. Well le sigh, the time will come eventually. Until then all I can do is throw on an easy breezy no fuss silk jumpsuit from Club Monaco and call it a day. It is just too hot to think!
